Today was my first day of trail clearing. It was hard work but a lot of fun. We hiked around 7 miles and cleared over 60 trees and we are only half way! The other ranger and I took turns, one with the chainsaw, the other with an ax. I had a blast. The weather started out as beautiful sunshine, but that gave way to clouds and rain. We got a little wet, but by then I was so sweaty and gross that it didn't matter. Tomorrow I am going out on the boat to travel to some remote campsites to hang bear poles and work on the sites. I will be sure to take my camera with me to try and get a few good shots. This pic on the right was my view for lunch, not bad huh? Then the next is a pic of the rain coming over the mountains towards us. And this last one is some of the wild flowers that are growing everywhere. Yall would love it.
Everyone keeps saying to stay on the trail, but that is a common misconception. The bears and other animals use the same trails that we do. They usually use them in the evening, all night, and in early mornings. That is why that tell not to hike at the those times. The guy from the bear management office that tracks bears with collars said that when they are documenting bears movements and times it is on the trails just before hikers usually get to them.
Everyone is doing great on the posts...keep it up!
I may be able to get phone service as we head up farther north tomorrow, I will try to call if I get a break from work.
Bye

Hey Jordy, Love these pics. The yellow wild flowers are great and the beautiful view of the mountains makes me want to get on a plane to head out there. Maybe one day I can. Your Dad showed NaNa how to read the blog. Not sure she has figured out the message writing yet but she loves the stories and pics too. I just got off the phone with her and the blog was the big topic of conversation. We all appreciate sharing this adventure with you. It would be hard to remember all this great stuff to talk about when you get home without the day by day (or every few days)summaries. Well better go for now. We all miss you and your rebust zest for fun and great food. Looking forward to the phone call if you find some service. Love you, Mom
I'm proud that you found a way to get some pictures while one the job. Looks like it's definitely your kind of work. Everyone's been asking about you - I've got nothing but good things to say so far due to your blog. Keep it up! I love you! Keep taking good care of yourself.
Got your text earlier about the accident then fire calls that pulled you off your regular trail duties...never a dull moment around there! Awaiting the details -- just pray everyone is OK. Saw on weather.com that high temp today w/in the park was 43 w/ low in 30's -- I'm sure we were twice that on both hign/low. Not bad for late Spring. We've had excitement of our own around here -- bad t-storms every evening w/ tree damage & power outages all over Upstate (dodged bullet on both...heck, we're running out of trees in our yard to lose).
On the wildlife front, Mom freaked when she saw our long black friend wrapped around the gazebo the other day (probably same Black Racer we caught last year -- only longer & fatter) -- guess that means I will be doing ALL the plant watering on the deck for the balance of the summer!. Also, we had our annual Black Bear sighting last week when a local man found a bear trapped in his chain-link fence behind his trailor (be careful what you wish for -- could happen to you!). -- Bill
PS -- Give my regards to Yogi & Boo-Boo (can't believe I'm the 1st to post that).
Hey Jordan! Wow! Sounds exciting. Knew it would be. What GORGEOUS pix, too! Sounds like your kind of adventure. This is a great way to stay in touch! Keep the updates coming.
